Separate property contributions to community property

When you contribute your own separate property (e.g. money) to buy a community property asset, you are entitled to a reimbursement for the amount contributed.

Unfortunately, your reimbursement will be limited to down payments, improvements, and payments that reduce the principal on any loans.

You won't get your money back for interest paid on loans, or maintenance, insurance, or taxation of a property.
