Child support calculation

Child support calculations are made by reference to the statewide uniform guidelines. The guidelines provide an algebraic equation to figure out child-support payments.

Generally, there are four steps to be carried out by the court to determine the appropriate amount to be paid.

1. Calculate an amount that is presumed to be correct.

2. Adjust the amount based on certain factors used to rebut the presumption.

3. Increase the amount based on certain expenses for the child.

4. Adjust the amount based on seasonal or fluctuating income of the parents.
